Extreme EMF radiation levels, over 2,500,000uW/m2 (or 2500mW/m2), were measured during an EMF assessment at a Gold Coast apartment, February 2022.
To put that in perspective, recommended safe levels are less than 10uw/m2 (or 0.01mW/m2) for living areas and less than 1uw/m2 (or 0.001mw/m2) for bedrooms. So these levels measured are 250,000 times higher than recommended by Building Biology standards.
The apartment owner engaged Safer EMF to measure the levels of radio-frequency radiation (RFR) emitting into their apartment and to advise the best shielding options for reducing the levels.
During the visit Safer EMF noted that there are 4 mobile phone base station site's located in close proximity to the apartment. One set of transmitters were located only 50 metres away, mounted at the same height as the apartment balcony and appeared to be unusually concealed from view in a cylinder structure.
These levels of RFR can be substantially reduced with a range of shielding options including:
Sheer or block-out radiation blocking curtains
Shielding paint
Metal screening
Window film
Bed canopies
For this site the radiation shielding materials recommended include sheer curtains to allow the client to enjoy natural light and views of the Gold Coast beaches and hinterland, block-out curtains for the bedrooms to reduce both light and noise when sleeping and metal screening on the windows and balcony so they can relax in their outdoor space.
It's important to seek professional advice when selecting shielding materials to ensure that the materials will achieve the desired result. Choosing the wrong materials or installing them incorrectly could inadvertently increase the levels, so it's important to measure the levels before and after.
